The OIC and the Republic of #Türkiye’ Mark the International Day for the Elimination of Waste To mark the International Day for Zero Waste, the OIC General Secretariat, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Türkiye, organized a high-level seminar in Jeddah (5 April 2026), which was opened by Amb. Aftab Khokher, ASG for Science and Technology, and attended by a distinguished group of experts and international organizations. The First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye and Patron of the “Zero Waste” Movement, Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, emphasized in her video address the need to tackle food waste to combat global hunger and environmental degradation, and urged a shift towards sustainable lifestyles and a just, sustainable world. Speakers from the IsDB, SESRIC, IIFA, and IPHRC participated in the symposium, all emphasizing that “Zero Waste” is not merely an environmental slogan but an economic driver that transforms waste into resources and creates green jobs. The symposium called for enhanced cooperation among member states to tackle the growing volume of waste and its accelerating climate and social impacts and called for the launch of environmental initiatives towards a more sustainable and stable future for our Islamic world. #OIC #ZeroWaste #Sustainability
