I took a wander around Hore Abbey recently. It is a brilliant spot for looking up at the Rock of Cashel. The dark stone of the ruined abbey walls creates a perfect natural frame for the Rock of Cashel. The sky was full of heavy, grey clouds, and the green…

Published: April 28, 2026 06:57
It’s hard to tell today, but Borodale in County Wexford was once a hive of industry with several water mills and huge canals and channels build into the river. From the far bank (where the car park is), you’d hardly even know as it’s all been reclaimed,…

Lismore Castle has been around in different forms for a long time. King John originally built a "castle of sorts" on this site in 1185, though the building we see today mostly dates back to the 19th century when the Duke of Devonshire had it rebuilt. One…

I strolled the Avonmore River Walk in Rathdrum the other day in the sun. The viaduct over the river there is impressive and I snapped this through one of the arches.

A Quiet River Bridge Walk

Borodale in Wexford is such a tranquil hidden oasis. And yesterday I discovered that there’s a whole trail on the other side of the river to where the car park goes! I loved this view of the bridge up the river.

I was out with my phone today and spotted this fella. A Grey Heron doing what it does best: hiding in the reeds. I stood still for a long time because these birds are experts at staying quiet. I felt like I was the one being watched.
