RT by @rafaelmgrossi: Held an online meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi @rafaelmgrossi. We discussed the security situation around Ukraine’s nuclear power plants. We are grateful for the IAEA missions conducted in Ukraine and remain ready to facilitate the work of the Agency’s experts at Ukrainian energy facilities. We agreed to maintain close coordination going forward. We also discussed the current state of work to restore the New Safe Confinement at the Chornobyl NPP. Partners have already provided €30 million in funding for the preparatory stage of the works. We have agreements with partners to mobilize $500 million for the full restoration of the New Safe Confinement. Contributions from Norway 🇳🇴, the United States 🇺🇸, the EU 🇪🇺 and other partners have already been announced, covering more than half of this amount. Together with the @EBRD, we continue consolidating international support to launch the full-scale restoration of the facility as soon as possible. We paid special attention to the need to adapt international approaches to nuclear safety in the context of war. The world needs a new doctrine that takes into account modern military threats and provides effective mechanisms to protect nuclear facilities in areas affected by armed conflicts. I thank Rafael Mariano Grossi and @iaeaorg team for their principled position, personal engagement, and consistent support for Ukraine. We highly value the Agency’s role in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety and strengthening the global nuclear safety system. Обговорили безпекову ситуацію довкола українських атомних електростанцій. Ми вдячні за проведені місії МАГАТЕ та готові й надалі сприяти роботі експертів Агентства на українських енергетичних об'єктах. Домовилися й надалі забезпечувати тісну координацію. Також обговорили поточний стан робіт з відновлення Нового безпечного конфайнмента на Чорнобильській АЕС. Партнери вже забезпечили фінансування підготовчого етапу робіт у розмірі 30 млн євро. Маємо домовленості з партнерами щодо мобілізації 500 млн дол. США для відновлення Нового безпечного конфайнмента. Вже анонсовані внески від Норвегії, США, ЄС та інших партнерів на понад половину зазначеної суми.
