Helsinki population passes 700,000! Helsinki’s population has crossed the 700,000 mark as migration drives the capital’s fastest period of population growth in years. The city expects another 100,000 residents by 2038 and forecasts that the population will exceed one million by 2070, according to figures released by the City of Helsinki on Friday. The milestone comes 14 years after Helsinki reached 600,000 residents in August 2012. The city had 694,392 inhabitants at the end of 2025, and calculations by Helsinki’s urban research and statistics unit place the 700,000 threshold around the middle of August 2026.
