Scattered showers and storms on Sunday: If you have outdoor plans on Sunday, scattered rain & storms are possible in the afternoon & evening. Severe weather is not expected, but brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds in any storm could put a temporary pause on plans.

In everyday conversation, "average" and "normal" often mean the same thing. But in meteorology, "normal" is the official term used by the National Weather Service and NOAA. It refers to the average weather over the most recent 30-year period, currently 1991–2020. As a TV meteorologist, I use the same terminology as the National Weather Service because it's the industry standard. Using consistent language helps ensure the information I share matches what you'll see from the National Weather Service and other meteorologists. So when I say "normal," I'm simply using the official meteorological definition of the 30-year average.
