Israelis across political and religious lines are worried about the weakening connection with younger Jewish Americans — who, according to a recent AP-NORC poll, tend to consider support for Israel less crucial to their Jewish identity than older adults. “It’s extremely important to us,” said Itai Nixon, who leads the diaspora department for Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Ministry. “We’re the state of the Jewish people, not just Israelis.” Lesley Sachs, who has protested the current Israeli government and chairs the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism, also considers a close relationship with diaspora Jews a “strategic asset” for both Israel and Jews worldwide. So she’s greatly concerned about diaspora Jews losing the sense that Israel can be a homeland for them, especially as rising antisemitism targets them regardless of political and religious affiliations. An Israeli man was moderately hurt in a stabbing attack Sunday morning near a Palestinian village in the West Bank’s Jordan Valley, security forces said, adding that the terror suspect was still at large with a major IDF manhunt underway. The stabbing occurred along a highway used by both Israelis and Palestinians in the village of al-Auja, some eight kilometers (five miles) north of Jericho. Footage of the attack showed an assailant jumping the Israeli man from behind and repeatedly stabbing him as he returned to his car after visiting a shop on the side of the West Bank highway. These antisemitic candidates' defeats are the clearest example yet that while large swathes of America’s electorate have soured on Israel — and anti-Israel candidates are winning elections — classical, blatant antisemitism is still considered out of bounds. Another volunteer moved to pin down the victim’s flailing upper body, and an Israeli medic offered a marker that the guard could use to write the time on the victim’s forehead to inform medics when they arrived. “This isn’t a first aid course. You’re not going to learn how to do CPR. We’re going to be learning how to deal with a multi-casualty or a mass casualty situation with the bare minimum of pairs of hands and a lot, a lot of people who need help," said Aryeh Myers, a veteran MDA medic from Israel, who taught the course alongside MDA medic Raphael Herbst. They repeatedly referred to lessons learned during terror attacks in Israel, including the October 2023 Hamas invasion. The Thursday drill was part of a course that Israeli first responders from Magen David Adom (MDA) taught to members of the US-based volunteer synagogue security group, the Community Security Service (CSS).
