Illegal outposts are settlement dwellings that have not received approval from the cabinet. According to Peace Now, fully 191 outposts have been established under the current government, some 130 of which are farming outposts that use livestock to assert control over large areas of West Bank land.
Although the outposts themselves are illegal, the Attorney General’s Office has approved the allocation of funding for security equipment for these illegal settlements on the basis that they are portable and do not require building permits.
The money for security equipment for illegal outposts is routed by the Settlements Ministry through the World Zionist Organization’s Settlements Division. The Settlements Division then allocates the funds according to requests for such funding from West Bank settlement municipal authorities for the outposts in their municipal jurisdictions.

Trump's comments on the war's end being in sight come amid ongoing reports on talks between the US and Iran nearly four weeks into the US-Israeli war with the Islamic Republic. The US formulated a 15-point proposal to halt the conflict, which elicited a cold response from Tehran. In addition, Iran’s leaders are said to demand that any ceasefire include an end to fighting between Israel and the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy.
Against that backdrop, Israel is continuing its attacks on the regime, reportedly worried that Trump could end the war abruptly. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the campaign was “continuing at full force,” as was the fight against Hezbollah.

Roald Dahl is a terrible messenger for a serious conversation about Jews and Israel.
Which is part of what makes “Giant,” the new Broadway play about the beloved children’s author’s 1983 antisemitic outbursts, so unsettling. The play asks urgent, complicated questions about Israel, Jewish solidarity and Diaspora responsibility — but it puts them in the mouth of a man whose own views were so steeped in bigotry that they distort everything he says.
The play, which opened Monday on Broadway, revisits the controversy over an antisemitic book review he wrote for a UK literary journal. That essay, meant as a heartfelt, outraged response to Israel’s 1982 war in Lebanon and the toll it had taken on civilians, veered immediately off the rails into bigotry. Dahl attributed Israel’s perceived excesses to a “race of people” who “switched so rapidly from being much-pitied victims to barbarous murderers.” He also spewed age-old tropes according to which US policy was controlled by “powerful American Jewish bankers,” and charged that the government was “utterly dominated by the great Jewish financial institutions over there.”

About 110 new immigrants are expected to arrive during April, and more than 830 immigration files have been opened by Jewish North Americans since the war started, the immigration organization said.

Historically, mass protest alone is not enough to bring about a political revolution — what matters more is whether popular unrest translates into cracks within the ruling regime itself. Otherwise, the united rulership tends to suppress opposition.
“There has to be some break in the security and elite apparatus. Without it, it’s difficult to see… almost any regime collapsing,” said Ray Takeyh, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.
But thus far, the US-Israeli campaign has not resulted in any such cracks visible from the outside, and it may have had the opposite effect, bolstering elite and military loyalty to the regime. Nor has it helped a viable alternative leader emerge, demoralizing the opposition and depriving it and any who might conceivably defect of a common point to rally around.

The ministry recently lowered the country’s growth forecast for this year from 5.2% to 4.7%, which the Bank of Israel said was an optimistic assessment.
With businesses slowing for weeks, livelihoods are on the line.
Businesses have been hit hard for the last six years, starting with the lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic, followed by the October 7, 2023, Hamas onslaught, which triggering a two-year multifront war, and then the 12-day fighting with Iran in June.
“Our turnover has cratered by more than 90 percent, and almost all of our income has gone,” said Erez Davidov, the owner of a stall in Bezalel Market. “I doubt we can hold on for more than a month, but beyond that we will have to lower the shutter, and we just won’t be here.”

The Israeli Air Force, last Wednesday, carried out a wave of airstrikes against Iranian Navy vessels at the port city of Bandar Anzali, on the coast of the Caspian Sea. According to the IDF, the strikes destroyed an Iranian Navy corvette, four missile boats, and several auxiliary ships and guard boats, along with a command center and a shipyard.
According to The Wall Street Journal, though, the sting of the strikes was likely felt not just by Iran but by Russia, too, which has its own port on the Caspian Sea, some 600 miles from Iran’s.
Russia and Iran have long enjoyed close ties, and in January 2025, they signed a strategic partnership agreement to further improve cooperation, including military and defense partnerships.

"The Islamic Republic is being battered hard by Israel and the United States, its nuclear sites and experts targeted, its missile launchers and stockpiles bombed, its paramilitary forces relentlessly weakened," ToI editor-in-chief David Horovitz writes in his op-ed. "The Israel Air Force says it has carried out hundreds of waves of strikes, dropping over 13,000 bombs on regime and military sites. But as Netanyahu acknowledged last week, 'You can’t do revolutions [only] from the air… You can do a lot of things from the air, and we’re doing [them], but there has to be a ground component as well.'”
"If the regime is not ousted, it will do everything in its admittedly reduced power to revive and rebuild."

Mideast expert and former MK Ksenia Svetlova joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan to discuss Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates reportedly moving closer toward actively joining the fight against Iran as the war in the Middle East threatens their economies. Svetlova also gives context to the ongoing war, and sets the scene of the relationships between the Islamic Republic and the Gulf states it is currently hitting. The pair also explore what the goal of the 1979 Islamic Revolution was, and consider whether the Iranian regime is anywhere near being compromised.

For nearly two decades, the families of victims of Iranian-sponsored terrorism have watched a 36-story Manhattan skyscraper generate millions in rental income for the Islamic Republic while their court judgments against Iran went unsatisfied.
On Monday, amid the Israeli-American war against Iran, that wait finally produced a result: a $318 million settlement that will direct funds from the sale of the building to hundreds of victims, including Jewish and Israeli families who lost loved ones to Iran-backed terror attacks stretching from Jerusalem to New York.

The law, sponsored by the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism and Shas parties, gives the religious tribunals the power to arbitrate civil disputes which are currently the purview of the secular court system. Rabbinical courts were allowed to act as arbitrators in financial disputes until 2006, when a court decision determined that they had no standing to do so.
Rabbinical courts are part of Israel’s judiciary, currently handling legal matters such as divorce, wills and inheritances, and conversions. The system comprises 12 nationwide regional courts, with the Great Rabbinical Court in Jerusalem serving as the highest appellate authority. The president of the Great Rabbinical Court, a role held by one of Israel’s chief rabbis, oversees the rabbinical court system. Currently, the position is held by Sephardi Chief Rabbi David Yosef.

In 2021, an Iranian exile group leaked footage of abuses at Tehran’s notorious Evin prison. In 2022, another group claimed it hacked over 5,000 cameras around Tehran, dumping gigabytes of surveillance footage and internal data on a Telegram channel.
Then, during the June war with Iran, Israel used Tehran’s cameras to track and bomb the location of a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, injuring Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to Iranian lawmakers and an Israeli documentary.
“All the cameras at our intersections are in the hands of Israel,” Mahmoud Nabavian, deputy chairman of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, told Iranian media in September. “Everything on the internet is in their hands… if we move, they will find out.”
The vulnerabilities have come amid Iran’s stepped-up use of surveillance cameras after a series of protests roiled the country. Subway cameras, for example, are used to detect when women don’t don the country’s mandatory hijab, or headscarf, using facial recognition to identify violators.

Jihad Amor, a resident of Tel Arad, told The Times of Israel that a fragment from an intercepted Iranian missile hit his uncle’s home, about 20 meters from his own house. He said he felt “total fear” when he heard the fragment hit at about 6 a.m.
“For our neighbors in Arad, the Home Front Command arrives, and the police come. The prime minister was there. The whole world was there,” he said, referring to the recent direct missile impact in the nearby city, which saw some 90 people wounded. “When we call the police or the Home Front Command, or the regional council, they don’t answer. No one pays attention. They don’t think of us as people, but as animals,” he charged.
In a statement following the strike, the Hadash party’s Negev branch said that the government’s neglect of the unrecognized villages reflects “an explicitly racist policy” and “blatant discrimination against Arab citizens in the Negev.”
The Abraham Initiatives organization said in a statement: “The failure of protection in the Negev costs more victims. We warned for years about the protection-gap in the Arab community in general, and the Bedouin villages in particular.”
“This war continues to expose, in a tragic way, the Israeli government’s policy of abandonment toward the Arab community. The time has come for an emergency protection plan,” it said.

A collection of dozens of ancient coins was seized after a suspected smuggling attempt from the West Bank into Israel last month, the Israel Antiquities Authority said Monday.
Most of the coins date back approximately 2,000 years. Some were minted by Hasmonean kings (in the second or first centuries BCE), others by Jewish rebels during the Great Jewish Revolt (66-73 CE) or the Bar Kochba Revolt (132-136 CE). The collection also includes many Roman coins.
Amir Ganor, the director of the IAA’s theft prevention unit, says that looters use sophisticated metal detectors to find ancient coins and take them from antiquities sites — and from their historical context.

Over the last several weeks, Iran has begun habitually firing missiles containing cluster munitions at Israel, raining dozens of small bomblets over urban areas and sowing chaos and destruction.
The submunitions, which can challenge air defenses, lack the explosive power of conventional warheads, but still pack a punch strong enough to destroy small buildings, flip cars, and maim or kill those in their way.
Though directed at Israel, the deadliest such attack has not been suffered by Israelis, but by West Bank Palestinians, who often find themselves in the path of Iran’s imprecise weaponry and without the protections Israel affords its citizens.

Until April 2, a table in the corner of Sahar Saidian’s living room in the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of Pisgat Zeev will be set with “Haft-sin,” the careful arrangement of seven symbolic items for Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, which also marks the start of the spring season. “We usually do more, we celebrate with music and dancing, but this year, because of the massacre and the war, we decided to cancel all the plans,” said Saidian.
She’s forcing herself to take out her aunt’s samovar tea kettle and will make a simple confection called “toot” — marzipan shaped like mulberries and topped with a sliver of almond, and invite friends over for tea. Read the full story and find a recipe to make your won toot on The Times of Israel:

The Israeli air defense system that failed to shoot down two Iranian ballistic missiles that struck the southern cities of Dimona and Arad on Saturday night was the medium-range David’s Sling, the military confirms.
The missiles that hit Dimona and Arad carried conventional warheads — not cluster warheads — with hundreds of kilograms of explosives. The military said the Iranian missiles were likely from the Ghadr family of projectiles and are a known threat.

With the war weighing on Trump’s political prospects and his economic agenda, his domestic allies had been pushing for an exit strategy. At the same time, key US partners in the Middle East, such as Turkey, had stepped up efforts to find a diplomatic way out of the fighting, creating a ramp that could work for Trump, even if not for Israel.
“I’m worried,” said American Enterprise Institute senior fellow Danielle Pletka.
“There will be a temptation to pull an Obama and run for the hills prematurely,” she said, referring to the 44th US president. “On the one hand, the president has the right principles and goals, on the other, he’s facing internal and external pressure to allow the regime to continue, to punt the problem to another president.”

Ariel Shapiro: "The Jewish community cannot afford to wait for the next statement, the next meeting, the next promise. It cannot rely on others to set the pace of its own safety. Action, within the law, is not optional anymore. It is necessary. That means sustained and unapologetic political pressure. Not one-off engagement, but constant, coordinated demands for enforcement of the laws that already exist. It means using legal channels properly and persistently, challenging failures where they occur, and refusing to accept inaction as inevitable. It means investing seriously in community security, not as a temporary response, but as a long-term reality. And it means changing the tone. Speaking clearly, early, and without hesitation when lines are crossed."
Ariel Shapiro is a PR professional doing his best to navigate a new culture and lifestyle having moved to Israel from London.

Strategic bombing in both world wars failed to bring enemy industry to a halt or force the population to turn on their leaders. In Vietnam and Kosovo, the effect of overwhelming airpower on adversary decision-making is extremely unclear. And in the 1991 Gulf War, it took a ground offensive to achieve the war’s aims, and even then Saddam’s regime survived and crushed Iraqis who rose up.
“When it comes to more sort of long-term goals,” said Christoph Bergs, an airpower analyst at the Royal United Services Institute, “it is questionable whether an air campaign in itself, without the threat of additional escalations in terms of, for example, ground forces, can result in substantive political targets being reached.”
