Deployment extensions are killing the maintenance schedules on these ships. In the case of Ford and its 11 month deployment; it's first planned incremental availability (PIA) was delayed by 2-3 months. It should've entered the shipyard shortly after the Eisenhower completed its PIA in late April, however it didn't come home until mid-May and finally entered its PIA early last month. This will push the schedule for each ship following Ford further into delays.

DCAS has updated casualty statistics for Overseas Operations since July 7th, 2026 adding 60 WIA to bring the total wounded to 339. All 60 are US Army casualties. This brings the total for Operation EPIC FURY and Overseas Operations to 18 KIA and 757 WIA.

The sailor who killed Seamen Braswell while they were on duty as a security element for the docked USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) had pointed his service weapon at other sailors on THREE previous occasions. His ability to be issued ANY weapons should've been immediately revoked after the FIRST time, let alone to serve as a security element for the ship. There should be some relief of commanders after this incident. Seaman Braswell would be alive if someone yanked this sailor's ability to to draw a weapon.

Interestingly, the totals for Overseas Operations remain at 4 KIA and 279 WIA while OEF totals added one US Army WIA brining the total to 418 WIA with 14 KIA. THIS is exactly what should happen when a department violates the Constitution, repeatedly. The Trinidad, TX Police Dept. has been informed that the county district attorney will no longer accept ANY cases for prosecution solely investigated or filed by their department after arresting two people for expressing their 1st amendment right. For background, there have been problems with the town's water, including very high chemical readings. A citizen journalist posted to her Facebook that she had received reports that the water problems had resulted in hospitalizations. The former police chief arrested her on a felony charge saying that her post "creates fear, panic, or unnecessary emergency response within a community." A grand jury subsequently declined to indict her on the charge. She has now field a federal lawsuit against the city and officials. Following news of her arrest, another citizen journalist went to Trinidad to protest, and was subsequently arrested after expressing vulgarity towards the police. The local judge subsequently dismissed the charge. The City Council subsequently fired the judge and the city administrator which was followed by a slew of resignations among city employees. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) has also launched an investigation into the department following what the interim police chief acknowledged were 15 years of bad police practices. Trinidad is a town of less than 1,000 people about an hour outside of Dallas.

It's no secret that Navy ships are complex and things break, sometimes rendering systems inoperable. They don't always have the luxury of pulling into port to fix the issue and many of the issues can be repaired while underway.
