I arrived to near a screen to find the score at 13 All and then the start of France’s demolition of this fair isle. And then back in again to the beautiful @glorennis for a packed house at the Remembering Edna O’Brien event, presented by @EnglishRachael with @sallyhayd (who knew that Sally, when she was starting out, worked for Edna O’Brien?!) Eoin McNamee and Andrew O’Hagan. All of the panellists had something to bring to the O’Brien table, but I’m sure none of the others would be insulted by my saying that Andrew O’Hagan, for the prosecco line alone, gave technicolour life to Edna O’Brien, for those of us who had never met her. The warmth and love for O’Brien in the room was palpable. It was full of joy and pride, from the people of Clare especially. That’s why I love @ebcf so much. Ennis is lovely to visit anytime. I get the majority of my green jumpers here, as it happens. But that’s another story. I love Ennis Book Festival because of the people who come to it. There’s no aul side. Everyone’s in it together. So little bullsh*t, it’s all about readers and thinking and laughing and questioning together. And masses of old ladies come to it. And I love that.
