Tonight, on Ahoi Ashtami, many British Hindu women will fast and pray for the wellbeing of their children. The fast is broken once they can view the stars, meaning the clouds will determine dinner time. In doing this they embody the Goddess or Mata (mother) Ahoi, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the lunar month. Mostly clear for Scotland and Northern Ireland with patchy coastal cloud. Generally cloudy elsewhere with just a few breaks after sunset for many in England and Wales. Those in central, northern and eastern England may struggle to see many stars at all and find themselves chilly with a few patches of drizzle whilst outside looking.
