This work is currently on show for the first time at the Foto/Industria Biennial in Bologna as part of our exhibition 'Looking for Palestine', on through 14 December. The exhibition brings together a selection of recent projects that expose continuities between Israeli mechanisms of displacement past and present, including a series of works exploring the Israeli weaponisation of evacuation orders in Gaza and during the 1948 Nakba. Over the past year, we have been working on a narrative study documenting the story of Nadia and Ahmad, a young Palestinian couple from northern Gaza forcibly displaced over a dozen times since 7 October 2023. Their harrowing account reveals the detention, abuse, and threats to life they endured even as they consistently complied with Israeli military orders — a microcosm of the broader patterns of genocidal violence we have observed over the last two years. Gaza after the ceasefire is defined by the ‘yellow line’ — drawn by Israel, and dividing the strip in two.
54% of Gaza is now inaccessible to its population; Palestinians approaching or crossing the line from west to east are met with lethal force. Meanwhile, Israel continues to attack civilians and buildings west of the line, such that nowhere in Gaza is safe.
Our evidence suggests that Israel seeks to make the ‘yellow line’ permanent, as ‘reconstruction’ plans normalise this new stage of Israel’s occupation: https://frames.forensic-architecture.org/gaza/ceasefire

R to @ForensicArchi: In a conversation we recorded (transcribed here from Arabic), Nuri spoke of al-Araqib, the house in which he was born, and the lands to which he fought to return:
‘These are the remains of the house that belonged to Haj Sliman, Sheikh Sliman Muhammad al-Uqbi on Area 1 of the al-Araqib land. Near the house, in the garden, we grew fruitful fig trees, pomegranate trees, grape trees, and prickly pears. However, the JNF took over the lands. I confirm and assure the audience and the history that we never gave up one centimetre of the land... I was born in this house but today I am forbidden to enter the land. They destroyed the land and the house and transferred the stones to the city of Beersheba... To see your land and not be able to use it... And I ask, why were we expelled from our land and our homes without reason? Is this racism? It is racism itself, when they expel one part of the citizens, and another remains on their lands.’
May his spirit live on.

Nuri al-Uqbi, our friend and a leader in the ongoing struggle for Palestinian Bedouin rights of return to their lands in the Naqab, passed away last week.
We were fortunate to work with and alongside Nuri for many years, carefully tracing, documenting, and helping to narrate the history of the ongoing struggle for return to the al-Uqbi houses, wells, orchards and cemeteries in al-Araqib, where Nuri was born and from where he was displaced and dispossessed in the early 1950's by the Israeli state.
Since the 1970's, Nuri has been a founding leader of the Palestinian Bedouin land rights movement, a struggle he continued all his life. Walking in al-Araqib, feet on the ground with a kite above his head tethered by a string to a small camera, Nuri led us through the traces of his family plots, before they were erased by the afforestation efforts of the Jewish National Fund (JNF).

Today marks 40 years since the siege of the Palace of Justice in Bogotá. Our investigation published in 2021 identified enforced disappearances which occurred in the context of the Colombian military’s counter-siege operation, and examined how the crime of enforced disappearance is perpetuated over decades, by 'violence against evidence', restricted access to information, and institutional silence: https://forensic-architecture.org/investigation/enforced-disappearance-at-the-palacio-de-justicia
