Morning, and a pretty filthy one in Dublin. Latest podcast on the nationalisation of the new homes market in Ireland. In the past few years the Irish State has become by far the biggest buyer of new homes in the country. It is not negotiating discounts with homebuilders, rather it is pushing prices upwards. Why? Because the multinational money spewing into the coffers means it doesn't need to have any notion of cost controls. Who pays? The squeezed first time buyers, many of whom are leaving.
