#OnThisDay 1907 The Fusiliers' Arch at the Grafton Street entrance to St. Stephen's Green was opened. The Arch commemorated the men from the Dublin Fusiliers who died in the Second Boer War. In Dublin vernacular, it's known as "Traitor's Gate". #Ireland #History

#OnThisDay 1945 Japan surrendered, bringing WW2 to an end. However, for Tommy Fisher (pic) from Newtowngore, Leitrim in a POW camp in Japan. It wasn't until the 28th August that they found out the war was over when leaflets were dropped by US planes. #Ireland #History #WW2
