R to @AyoCaesar: If anything, Nolan is pretty conservative. Sure, there's the language ('Dad') and multiracial casting, interiors which look like they could be austere 5* spa retreats, but I think in many ways he's fairly deferent to the text. It's interesting how, in all the conversations about Nolan's Odyssey, being pulled into the present by what we feel to be anachronisms is seen as a sign of a bad adaptation. But Christopher Logue's take on the Iliad, War Music, is full of them – helicopters, Uzis, Primrose Hill! – and it's thrilling.

RT by @AyoCaesar: it is rare that any film, or indeed any creative work, has drawn so much attention thus scrutiny, doubt & derision; everyone seems to have seen their own "Odyssey" & found a particular fault with it. "there is no such thing as bad publicity"--many have observed. if you read the original--i.e., the text--you will have to be amazed that filmmakers have extracted from its many dense lines a more or less coherent storyline that might be translated into a movie---just that someone did this is ambitious, in my opinion. also, in the original, there is a constant intrusion of gods into the world of mortals; there are very frequent sacrifices of animals (rams, bulls) to the gods; virtually none of this could be translated into film for contemporary audiences though one of the chief complaints is that Nolan has not adapted "The Odyssey" faithfully. (no, no one wants to see nine bulls sacrificed one after the other for Zeus. & hoping that no one wants to see Agamemnon sacrifice his own daughter to a particularly demanding/nasty god.)

UNRWA funding ended based on random convenient hearsay but millions of Palestinians facing heavy bombardment, slaughter, limbs sprawled all over the place and not even a whisper of consequences for Israel.

RT by @AyoCaesar: This is a hideous list to update, but the brother of Dalloul Neder - the Palestinian man dragged from that Labour meeting after much of his family were killed by Israeli weapons - has now been killed, too.

This is only acceptable to you if you think Palestinian lives don't matter. A permanent ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza would have achieved the same thing, faster, with no more loss of life.

The images emerging from Rafah overnight are truly horrifying. Make no mistake, for all their concerned noises now, this has been emboldened by our politicians offering an effective carte blanche to Israel in October. This was always how their military offensive was going to go.

Hmm, a super hot woman with her kit off getting shown off by a rich man who, miraculously, always seems to have his clothes on. So taboo! I've never seen this before!

So Kanye's parading his new wife, who looks exactly like his ex-wife, around town naked, and everyone's just like "YES, this is FASHION, this is AESTHETIC"????

RT by @AyoCaesar: they're all using this formulation you'll note. would be nice if a single journalist were to ask them what the difference is between the fighting stopping now, which they are calling for, and an immediate ceasefire, which they are not.

The "most moral army in the world" bombed an ambulance crew they'd previously said would be permitted to rescue a child trapped in a car with her dead family. The paramedics, and the little girl Hind, have all been killed.

RT by @AyoCaesar: I was an organic grower in Carmarthen for twenty years - I would work 60 hours a week, bring up my kids, and the only highlight was going to town on a Saturday. Every weekend I would have a crippling headache from the stress. Why? Because people who do the real work, the essential work, get paid shit wages while the rich pay fuck all taxes. Everyone is sick to death with the humiliation. On top of that, the elites are collapsing our climate, destroying everything in its wake. Normal people don't want a lot - just enough and the dignity of not being treated as idiots. Unless new progressive social movements arise that make a clear break with the suicidal bollocks of the neoliberals - Starmer, Macron, Scholz - fascists will be in power within the decade. The new offer is this: "Yes, the country will be less "rich," but at least we can have equality, dignity and community - and that is what counts." We face mass migration and the collapse of world trade - insurance markets, coastal property prices - as climate breakdown destroys the global economy. Combine that with fascism and you have the biggest shit show in human history. The situation could not be more serious. Wake up and act.
