The flock of European White-fronted Geese at Monks House pools had grown to 33 birds this lunchtime - the largest flock in Northumberland since 2017 #NEbirding

The right hand bird is towards the grey end of the Yellowhammer spectrum - the nearest I could find to a rare bunting amongst the hordes at Holburn #graspingatstraws #NEbirding

Also in the stubbles at Holburn Grange, a flock of nine Twite (you can just about make out the yellow bill on the left hand of these six), quite a surprise five miles from the coast #NEbirding

A male Yellowhammer in the snow at Holburn today - just one out of a huge flock. There could be as many as 600 but they’re devilishly difficult to count, diving in and out of stubbles and hedges #NEbirding

Scaup at Branton today. This is the younger of the two I found last month - it has grown up a bit since, but there’s still a bit of brown feathering on the flanks. I found the adult male later a couple of miles to the east, at Hedgeley #NEbirding

Having spent most of the day in front of a computer screen, this pre-dusk dose of nature therapy from several hundred Curlews at Boulmer was much appreciated #birds

Great to return home to find my copy of Birds in Northumbria 2023 has arrived. Looks to be the usual excellent @ntbirdclub.bsky.social production with a cracking cover by @stewchat.bsky.social. Well done to Andy Mould and his team.

This Ruddy Shelduck at Hauxley (and a pair of Egyptian Geese just down the lane) was about as exciting this morning’s birding got #NEbirding

Not quite a full-on boxing match, but it was getting tense between the Hares at Hauxley today #handbags

Top gig at Zerox, N’castle with the motorik pulse of Eat Lights Become Lights, and the Portuguese bass + drums assault of Maquina. Pretty sure they just played the same song six times, but it was a good one 🤷♂️

Interesting Jackdaw in the garden (Alnwick) today, more than a hint of Nordic (monedula) about it #NEbirding #birds

Some video of the American Buff-bellied Pipit at Guile Point, Northumberland today. Hard to keep the focus when it was coming ever closer! #NEbirding #rarebirdsUK youtu.be/qGUGbLBhA8s

Returned to Guile Point this afternoon to see the American Buff-bellied Pipit again. Felt like such a privilege to sit on the beach while this little character fed within a few feet of me, utterly unconcerned by my presence. #NEbirding #rarebirdsUK
