Horror writers tend to have particular fearsā€¦ MR James: I got sidetracked from my regular research. Junji Ito: I had a bad idea and couldnā€™t get it out of my head. My entire head. HP Lovecraft: I had to meet too many people and had a meltdown. ā€¦

What did you think about the ā€˜plagueā€™ theme of NOSFERATU? My take: 1. Cool idea. Way to make the vampire more fearsome than any Iā€™ve seen on film. 2. Good trick for making evil unsexy. Not decadent; bad. 3. Timely but oddly not. Becauseā€¦ 1/

I went off-brand here! Normally I'm about the folk horror and arthouse - but I hate seeing people upset at the mere thought of this movie. So join me while I say some reassuring things. Time to feel better about something. I promise there will be noā€¦

Lads, don't play dead. We wish to treat with you, not hurt you. See? No iron. No boots. Nobody'll be stepped on. We don't have a quarrel with your dances if you keep it to the woods. Just not on our windows all night. Men need their sleep, if youā€¦

My new @gnofhorror.com piece comes out tomorrow! Normally I review folk horror, arthouse and classics, but tomorrow we depart. I am going to try to make you feel better about the existence of The Human Centipede. Not by saying it's good - it's not -ā€¦

It's #BookQuoteWednesday! #BQW today: IGNORE. The fairy-smiths of Gyrford are there to forge cold iron to protect the folks from the People and care for those the fey 'touched'. But the fey ones aren't always the problem. Meet Ephraim Brady, landlordā€¦

'Separate the art from the artist.' We hear this a lot these days, but question: what, in practice, does that actually mean? I suspect it of being one of those phrases that means different things to different people. How would you interpret it?

Another thing I'm seeing nice people say about Gaiman: 'I feel stupid for thinking he was a great guy.' No. You're just nice. Here's what happened: Thinking well of someone made you happy because nice people like to do that. As far as you knew, thereā€¦

All right, which of you grumbled about the weather under the Listening Cloud? You know it takes such things to heart, and now look: it's weeping all the colour off the buttercups. Off you go for a merry dance in the rain, then. No I will not join you; youā€¦

A thought on role models: We all like good advice. Itā€™s illuminating. But ask yourself where your attention is being directed. Are you seeing a firework that wants you to gaze in admiration at its dazzle, or a lantern that wants you to find the path itā€™sā€¦
