A postern is a form of door in a city wall. This is the North Street Postern in York, another candidate for #ADoorableThursday. It dates from the mid 19th century, replacing a smaller one for access to coal boats.

43-55 Goodramgate, York. A trio of medieval buildings. The nearest probably truncated a bit in the early 19th century. At the end of the row a three storey former showroom for a furniture maker.

Ingram's Almshouses, 90 Bootham, York. Built in 1633, the 10 houses for the poor reused a monastic doorway for the main entrance on the central tower that housed the warden.
